Corker Says Government Should Not Encourage Homeowners to Default

April 13, 2012 - Appearing on CNBC's Squawk Box today, Senator Corker warned that a US Treasury Department plan to forcibly push principal reduction loan modifications at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could incentivize homeowners to default on their mortgages. Earlier this week, he urged Ed DeMarco, acting director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, to avoid encouraging this kind of irresponsible behavior on the part of American homeowners.
